Federal Election 2011 Print
Monday, May 02 2011, 8:30am - 8:30pm Hits : 1973

Wolfville Council encourages all residents to ask the candidates about what they will do for municipalities. The current Federal Gas Tax Fund contributes $340,000 to Wolfville infrastructure annually which is equivalent to about 10 cents of the tax rate (the current residential tax is $1.43). The Gas Tax Funds need to be increased or at the very least protected in the upcoming period of austerity. Wolfville’s Fiscal Sustainability Task Force has identified the need for an additional $750,000 annually to reverse the decline in our infrastructure. Canada needs a long-term infrastructure plan for municipalities.

To find out more about what important to municipalities check out the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Election Website (http://www.fcm.ca/election2011/).
