CAO Announcement

 

Wolfville, NS (August 9, 2011) – Wolfville Town Council is pleased to announce that after completing an extensive search, a new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) has been hired!

Ms. Diane Mombourquette will begin her new job as CAO for Wolfville on September 15.  Originally from Nova Scotia, Ms. Mombourquette is a Chartered Accountant who has a solid track record of financial and administrative management.  She has spent much of her career in British Columbia, having worked as Director of Finance for Tourism Whistler.  She also brings solid municipal government experience as the former General Manager of Economic Viability and Acting CAO for the Resort Municipality of Whistler.

“We are very excited to welcome Ms. Mombourquette to Wolfville” said Mayor Robert Stead.  “She brings a wealth of experience and will be a great fit for our town!”

As Wolfville’s CAO, Ms. Mombourquette will be responsible for providing advice and support to Town Council, leading the development of a robust economic development plan, partnering with management to build a positive workplace culture, defining our financial objectives, and most importantly, service objectives that will ensure the Town of Wolfville delivers the greatest value to all residents, for years to come.

TOWN OF WOLFVILLE

LOW INCOME PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION

Do you know about the Town’s Low Income Property Tax Exemption  Policy ?

Do you qualify?

If your income in 2010 did not exceed $18,500, then you may qualify.  Check line 150 of your 2010 Federal Tax Return.

What amount of tax relief do I receive if I qualify?

An exemption of $250.00 will be applied to your tax bill in accordance with Town Policy.

What do I have to do to receive exemption?

You must complete an application form which is available at the Town Hall.  The application should be signed and returned to the Town Hall by July 31st.

 

A copy of the Application Form can be picked up at the Town Hall or electronically from the Town website.  An original, signed copy, must be submitted to the Town Office.

Changes to Downtown Wolfville Parking

The Town of Wolfville is currently making changes to its public downtown parking.  The changes will be in place no later than July 19, 2011 and will include:

-         All colour coded parking will be eliminated

-         Street parking and Town-owned parking lots will be increased to 3 hour parking from the current 2 hours

-         Designated parking lots in town will become all-day parking lots.  These lots are:

o  Railtown Parking lot (Town-owned portion)

o  NS Power Parking lot (near skateboard park)

o  DeWolfe Parking lot (off of Elm Ave and behind Festival Theatre)

Directional signage is also being put into place to clearly mark the new parking changes. However, it is important to note that privately owned parking lots will not change.

The parking changes will be enforced as the new signage is put into place.  To help clearly identify public parking, please see the map of public parking spaces below.

The Witchhazel Tree is being considered as the offical tree for the Town of Wolfville.  The attached proposal explains the attributes of Witch Hazel and the potential benefits of this idea for our town.

Wolfville Town Council would like your feedback on this proposal for it's consideration at the July 4th Committee of Council Meeting.

Wolfville Showcases Best Practices in Local Biodiversity Management

The Town of Wolfville was recently profiled in the Cities and Biodivisity Case Study Series, which showcased Canadian Best Practices in Local Biodiversity Management.  Of the 11 communities profiled across Canada, Wolfville was the ONLY small town to be featured!

The study was produced by the international organization, ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability with support from Environment Canada.
