Planning

The Planning Department is responsible for development control within the Town. This includes administration of, and policy development for, the Municipal Planning Strategy, Land Use By-Law and Subdivision By-Law, all as per authority of the Municipal Government Act.

Planning in Wolfville is greatly influenced by four factors:

  • a keen interest in architectural values
  • a desire to create and maintain a pedestrian oriented commercial district
  • a high value placed on parks and open space
  • assimilating a University student population equalling the Town population of approximately 4000.

Responses to these factors include:

  • Architectural guidelines for the commercial district and residential areas
  • significant investments by the Town in parks and open space acquisition and development
  • extensive use of development agreements to control residential development

 Personnel

Personnel for the Planning Department are located upstairs in the Public Works building at 200 Dykeland Street. Should stairs propose a barrier for access, please call to arrange an alternative location to meet with any of the planning staff.
