The Town of Wolfville was officially designated as a Cittaslow community in April 2016. Only the third Canadian community to be designated, Wolfville joins 176 municipalities in 27 countries to be recognized by Cittaslow International for its commitment to “slow city” principles. To be designated, a community must fulfill over 50 criteria addressing environmental protection and healthy lifestyles, support for local products, agriculture and artisans, community engagement, social justice, celebration of and respect for local culture, heritage and traditions, and the thoughtful development and use of technology for sustainability and community well-being. Wolfville is proud to be included in this select group of municipalities world-wide that share our values and vision of sustainability and quality of life. This is a community driven initiative, supported by Wolfville Council, and in the coming months a volunteer Cittaslow Committee will be identifying projects to strengthen and enhance our role in this international network of slow cities.
